Highlighting the trends of the 60′s classics, Fendi takes the audience through a visual treat of the past while still illuminating the stage with all of the signature styles of the modern age including structured cuts, varying textures, and alluring details.

It is never too late for change, as was clearly stated by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi in Fendi‘s Spring Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection which captures the essence of the 1960s – a decade of immense change for the typical Italian woman. The most notable characteristics of the collection were knee length cuts, a swept-back bouffant, iconic oversized sunglasses, and intriguing plays on texture. What may appear to be a rather simple ensemble becomes a modern chic masterpiece with one of his first looks – a cream knee length striped dress with a thick black trim cinched at the waist and flaring out slightly at the bottom. However, ‘the Lagerfeld touch’ comes with a white cotton overlay adorning the top of the dress, accented with gold buttons in the middle and sides and subtle shoulder cuts as well as white strappy heels with a fur trimming.

Marking the drastic change from once voiceless homemaker to the Fendi woman took the world by a storm. One particular look instantly adds intrigue and provides a perfect illustration, consisting of a collared shirt with structured sleeves and a long cut of fabric centred at the collar imitating a men’s tie, and a striped skirt with pleating in the middle that causes the illusion of a pant with gold buttons detailing on the top sides, and finished off with mustard yellow strappy heels and an array of colourful bangles. The collection continues with a series of eye catching textural plays, a combination of prints, and careful details with calculated cuts until it ends with a run of black dresses. With Lagerfeld, there’s never such a thing as a simple black dress. Instead, the collection features a line of black sheer chiffon adorned with silver flowers, and dresses illustrating a refined feeling in the similar sheer chiffon with a unique swirling pattern of ribbon. Leave it to Fendi to let the world know whose taking charge now.
